DIY Friday: Personalised Valentine's Art

chambray and curls Personalised Valentines Art DIY tutorial Map Silhouette Forever ago I saw a picture pinned, which had a profile silhouette of a girl cut out of a map. I thought it was so pretty, and I've been wanting to do something similar ever since. I decided to take that idea and make a little bit of personal art for our home- the young man and I, using a vintage map of the area we are living in right now. With Valentine's day coming up, I thought I'd share a little DIY. It is cheap and oh so easy and I reckon it would make a perfect gift for your beloved!

I used an old one and you can pick them up really cheaply in charity shops- remember if you like the frame but not the colour, then you can just spray paint it ! Take the back off and draw around it to give you your guide for your picture. I used a textured dark paper for my background, to show up the silhouettes best. chambray and curls Personalised Valentines Art DIY tutorial Map Silhouette chambray and curls Personalised Valentines Art DIY tutorial Map Silhouette
Print out your photos- you can use black and white to make it cheaper too. These are just to act as a guide. Because my frame was A4 size, I printed my photos to half that so they could face each other nicely :) Then cut around your profiles ready to use as your template.chambray and curls Personalised Valentines Art DIY tutorial Map Silhouette
Blu-tack your cut out profiles onto your map. I chose the sections covering where we are living now, and kept them the same way up. Putting lots of small blu-tack dots works best to keep the photos close to the map, and make the cutting out easier.

Position your cut out map silhouettes onto your backing paper and glue down. I added a little cut out heart between the two as well, just because :) You could make it extra special by adding some writing using a gold or silver sharpie across the bottom- your anniversary dates, your favourite quote, your names...

Then you're ready to pop it all into the frame, and hang it somewhere pretty. Easy as anything!

  3. This is perfect. I've wanted to make something like this for ages but couldn't find an idea I liked enough - this is it! I'm going to make it with maps of where we're from, as we were born at opposite ends of the country! x
